I stumbled upon this image and it seems to put our research into context quit nicely.
A look at ESB as well as an IDM

Just wanted to note a slight expansion to just an IDM implementation, the use of Enterprise Service Bus systems would improve the distributed systems layout the University has. By definition certain places have separated systems and the University is no exception, a VLE, Email, Library etc, if the information stored in each of these systems was situated in one location it would mean once the IDM has validated the users identity the user can take any information they require from one source, reducing the complex nature found in certain distributed systems
Interesting Articles of Research
These last few weeks have consisted of some preliminary research and the gathering of various papers and reports of significance. I’ve uploaded several of high relevance below, “Identity Management Systems” by Tracy (2008) is a must read to get quickly up-to-speed with Identity Management Systems and what they bring to the table.

Project Overview Presentations
A few months ago me and Chris gave brief presentations regarding the project and an introduction to Identity Management (IM) solutions and options. I’ve uploaded my slides and they should be available from the link below.

Chris also produced a report detailing the project so I’ll try and get him to upload it and share it within this post also.
Introduction
This blog will be used as a showcase to post various research items during research into Identity Management solutions for the University of Lincoln. As research is gathered it will be posted up here a long with the progress of the project.
The main aim of this project was to explore viable Identity Management solutions to meet a set of requirements set by the University of Lincolns online services team in order to guide the team into selecting an IM solution to role out over the university campus. This research project is being conducted by Tom Austin and Chris Phillips for their Industrial Project as part of their MCOMP degree.
